Northern Harrier

One of the less common raptors around Orange County, flying low over open fields and tall grass is where you'll find a Northern Harrier, a diurnal hunter with keen eyesight and hearing, it's owl shaped face helps hear minute sounds of mice which is its primary food source. Unlike other hawks that perch high on limbs, these birds typically perch low, fly low, and also build their nests on the ground.
